‘5 Minutes Alone’ with Not the Girl Next Door and Far From Who We Are

Written by on February 4, 2019

Invading the air waves and blasting onto the scene with their new single “Hollow”, comes the band Far From Who We Are. Hailing from South Africa, the band encompasses sounds of guitar driven rock, gritty melodic vocals and a whole lot of alternative, musical goodness with their new release.

Not the Girl Next Door Show had a chance to spend ‘5 Minutes Alone’ with the band to talk about their new release and what is in store for the band.

Tell us a little about the band, where are you from, how you met?

The band started about 3 years ago. I had a bunch of songs that I recorded and decided to send some of it to a couple of radio stations and managed to get it on to two campus radio stations. The one station asked if I can come in for an interview and that’s when the band formed, with my brother on bass and a friend at the time on drums. We are from a town called Benoni.

How is the music “scene” in South Africa and has it changed at all in the past ten years for rock music?

The rock scene is pretty small and tough to crack. But we are not giving up. We play wherever and whenever we can.

Let’s talk about the new music. Can you tell us a little about what the new song “Hollow” and what it is about? How does the collaborative process work with Far From Who We Are, as far as composing/creating music?

“Hollow” is about letting go of toxic people in your life. They have the ability to make you doubt yourself and break you down to feel better about themselves. We recorded, mixed and mastered the song ourselves. The collaborative process was a bit different with this song. We collaborated with a drummer named Kyle Williams. He is an amazing drummer and really hit the nail on the head with this one. We recorded a whole EP with him which will be released soon.

Do you have any crazy live performance/fan stories that have happened to the band over the past years?

Someone got on stage in the middle of our set and proposed to his girlfriend.

Fun weird facts. Tell us some fun weird facts fans may not know about the band.

Not that I can think of. We are pretty avarage, boring human beings.

What does 2019 have in store for Far From Who We Are?

We releasing an EP soon and just want to get it out there and send it all over and hope for the best.
