‘5 Minutes Alone’ with The Story Behind and Not the Girl Next Door
Written by Angela Mockbee on March 5, 2020
Watch out world! Gritty, powerful, rawk music will be blasting the airwaves from Gothensburg, Sweden and the band to invade with sound is The Story Behind.
I had a chance to do an interview with the band, in an unadulterated, unedited, fresh of the presses interview. I spent ‘5 Minutes Alone’ with the band and dug deeper into the world of The Story Behind.
Tell us a little about the band, where are you from? How did you meet?
We’re based out of Gothenburg, the metal capital of Sweden. Jimmy and Glen had collaborated on an album with The End of Grace. When that band had run its course, they invited in Rob on bass, and Rob suggested we bring in Andreas whom he’d performed with in Massive Audio Nerve (M.A.N.). Initially we got together with another type of project in mind but once we all heard the demo of “The Story Behind” it changed everything. The song was so enticing that everyone just wanted to follow that path.
What kind of music would you describe your sound as? Who are some of your musical influences?
Let’s talk about the newest album, ‘Initium’. Tell us what vibe the album encompasses. Do you have plans for music videos for some singles off the album?
“Initium” (Latin for “The beginning”) is a concept album based on the mystical disappearance of an astronaut named Captain Jefferey K. Haze. We realized early in the process that the songs were extremely intertwined and were creating a larger story, so we just went with it.
We’re extremely pleased with the results and the vibe we would say is viscerally melodic.
Yes, we’ve already released videos for “In My Head”, “Last Chapter”, “Indifference”, “The New Beginning” and “Regret” which were produced by the band and we plan to release more in 2020.

How does the collaboration process work as far as writing/composing music?
Jimmy has a digital catalog of riffs and demos which we pick favorites from and then work with them till we’re pleased. This process has worked very well for us and we already have a lot of material for another album.
How does it feel when you put all your hard work to the test and perform live? Do you have any crazy performance band/fan stories?
It’s a joy and complete satisfaction to perform this material live. We just got back from a successful album release gig in Stockholm and the crowd just loved it! We’re extremely pumped for the next string of gigs coming up. Sure, we’ve seen some crazy stuff in the past, but we’ll leave that up to your imagination and leave what happens on the road, on the road.
Let’s shake it up a little. Tell us some strange facts about the band, that virtually no one would know.
Strange facts you ask?? One of us is related to the Guinness Book of World Record holders of the “World’s Heaviest Twins”. One of us is born in Finland. Two of us have Swedish last names with the word “Mountain” in them and one of us looks cooler than the Wolverine. You guess which.
What do you have planned for the rest of 2020?
2020 we plan to promote this album and tour as much as we possibly can, then we’re going to finish up the follow-up album.
