For the first time in almost a decade the heavy hitting rock band Adema is back at it and touring the US with Head PE and Powerman 5000. I had the opportunity to sit down with and interview the band before the show and to see the live performance at The Empire Concert Club in Akron, OH. The tour was brought to Akron by VE Promotions, working with The Empire and featured this amazing triple headline show as part of their “175 experience”. This is a unique to The Empire and provides a way to bring larger national acts to Akron in a small personal setting with
a limit of only 175 tickets sold.
When I arrived at the Empire it was early and still fairly relaxed. I was anticipating a busy night since this triple headliner was showcasing some of Akron’s favorite acts, Head PE and Powerman 5000 have both been headliners at the venue before and have a strong Akron following.
While interviewing Adema, I discovered it had been a while since Adema had toured at all and they had not been to Akron in many years. In fact, the last show they played in Akron was at Ripper Owens Tap House and they fondly remembered getting Ripper Owens to perform on stage a cover of Living after Midnight with them. This tour for them is to introduce the new lead singer, Ryan Shuck also of Orgy and Julien-K and to reunite with all their fans nationwide. I was really excited to see this show since Adema had not toured in so long and they had finally hired the man they felt was perfect to front their band. I could feel the energy and excitement from the band as they talked about what Ryan Shuck brought to Adema. It really was infectious; I couldn’t wait for the show.
Adema’s band sounded very tight and professional. They are all original members who have been playing together for two decades. The production was limited due to the small stage and venue but still impressive. On the other hand, since the venue is small and the stage accessible Ryan Shuck and Adema were literally in your face the entire set. The fans were treated to an up close and personal performance and an opportunity to get to know Ryan as front man for the band. Adema and Ryan Shuck put on a great show and they handled the small stage and venue like the professionals they are. I am really excited to see what the future will bring for this updated and refreshed version of the band. The band is currently still on tour and you can get more information on the tour and band at:
