World of Rock with Gigi and Door 13 discuss their New Single “Drowning” and what is happening with the band!

•  Tell our Rock Fans about the band’s latest release?  Where did the band record with and who? 

 

Our latest release, “Drowning,” delves into profound emotional struggles, articulating feelings of helplessness, betrayal, and suffocation. It depicts frustration and confusion in expressing emotions, a futile attempt at resolution, and the realization of being manipulated. Through the metaphor of drowning, we symbolize feeling overwhelmed and silently struggling, intensified by imagery of lungs filling with water, pleading for salvation. The final line adds a layer of complexity, hinting at abandonment by a higher power. Overall, the song delves into themes of betrayal, turmoil, and survival amidst adversity, employing vivid imagery and evocative language to convey intense emotions.

To bring “Drowning” to life, we recorded in multiple locations. Guitars and bass were laid down in our respective home studios, offering comfort and familiarity to each of us. The drums were captured at our former drummer’s studio, ensuring top-notch percussion tracks. Finally, vocals were recorded with the expertise of local producer and engineer, Josquin Des Pre, who skillfully enhanced the vocal performance and overall sound of the track.

 

• How long was the writing process and what inspired you on this new release?

 

“Drowning” was penned roughly two years ago, before the band had fully formed. The foundation of the song and its arrangement have remained unchanged since its inception. With Mercedes joining the band in early 2022, “Drowning” and several other tracks were primed for action, marking early to mid-2022. The recording process kicked off in early 2023.

 

•  What changed during this process from previous releases? 

 

During the process leading up to this release, we encountered various challenges typical of any band’s journey. We faced lineup changes, schedule delays, personal crises, busy work schedules, and the demands of family life. Despite these hurdles, every member of our band remained committed to our shared vision. We’ve weathered these storms together, maintaining a strong and healthy working relationship despite the numerous obstacles we’ve encountered. Our perseverance and dedication to our craft have been unwavering, and it’s a testament to the resilience and determination of each member of the band.

 

•  What’s next for the band?  Any Tours or festivals Lined up? 

 

As a relatively new band, our focus moving forward is primarily on building our brand and expanding our presence in the music scene. Currently, we’re heavily invested in creating and performing live locally, where each of our shows has been met with enthusiastic reception from local patrons. Additionally, we’re committed to releasing new music consistently throughout 2024, ensuring our audience remains engaged and intrigued by our evolving sound.

While we don’t have any tours lined up at the moment, we’re actively seeking opportunities to showcase our music on a larger scale. With the assistance of Curtain Call Records, we’re submitting our music to festivals nationwide, aiming to reach broader audiences and establish ourselves within the festival circuit. Alongside these efforts, we’re maintaining a strong presence on social media, regularly sharing content and engaging with our fans to cultivate a dedicated following and further solidify our presence in the music industry.

 

•  Describe your live show to a fan that has not seen you perform before?

 

For those who haven’t experienced our live show yet, allow me to paint a picture. We’re firm believers in turning every performance into an unforgettable event. Rather than inundating the scene with frequent shows, we believe in quality over quantity. Our approach involves crafting one incredible show every few months, ensuring that each performance is a highlight on the calendar.

Thanks to our strong presence in the San Diego scene, we’ve established close relationships with venue owners and booking agents. This allows us to curate live shows in standard venues that exude the energy and spectacle of a large arena concert.

Once we step onto the stage, we transform from mere musicians into full-fledged entertainers. We’re passionate about delivering not only our music but also an electrifying performance throughout our set. From the moment the lights dim and the first note resonates, we’re dedicated to captivating our audience with an exhilarating show that leaves them buzzing long after the final encore.

 

•  What is your favorite song to play live? Always a tough question to answer. 

 

Selecting a favorite song to play live is akin to picking a favorite child; each holds a unique place in our hearts. From the inception of a song through its evolution in the writing and arranging stages, to the meticulous recording process, and the rigorous rehearsals leading up to a performance, every step of the journey is infused with passion and dedication.

When we take the stage, it’s not just about playing a song; it’s about sharing an experience, reliving the emotions and stories embedded within each track. Each song becomes a vessel through which we communicate with our audience, inviting them into our world and allowing them to connect with the essence of our music.

So, while we may not have a single favorite song to perform live, each performance is an opportunity for us to immerse ourselves in the rich tapestry of our musical journey, and to share those moments of inspiration, creativity, and expression with our fans.

When considering potential collaborations or tours, our focus extends beyond major touring bands to embrace the vibrant community of up-and-coming artists who are diligently crafting their own musical identities. The landscape is teeming with talent, making it difficult to narrow down the list. However, a few standout acts have captured our attention and admiration.

Among these rising stars are Paralandra, The Almas, and CloZure. Their dedication to their craft and their ability to connect with audiences resonate deeply with us. We’ve had the privilege of either working with or communicating with some of these bands, and we’ve been consistently impressed not only by their musical prowess but also by the genuine warmth and camaraderie they exude.

Collaborating or touring with bands like Paralandra, The Almas, or CloZure would be a dream come true for us. We share similar artistic sensibilities and a mutual respect for each other’s work. The prospect of joining forces with these talented artists to create something truly special, whether it’s a collaborative song or a joint tour, fills us with excitement and anticipation. Ah, the age-old question of who gets the most attention from our fans… Well, let’s break it down, shall we?

First up, we have Mercedes, our fabulous female vocalist. With her stunning voice and captivating stage presence, she naturally draws eyes and ears whenever we hit the stage. Plus, let’s not forget her knack for adding a dash of provocativeness to our social media posts—she’s definitely got the fans talking!

Next, we’ve got Alec, our resident social media maven. This guy is like a guitar guru on steroids, constantly bombarding the internet with his guitar-related content. And good luck missing him in a crowd with that massive head of curly hair—he’s practically a walking advertisement for our band!

Now, let’s not overlook Gus, aka “Gusto.” This guy is practically a legend in the San Diego music scene. Seriously, we can’t go anywhere with him without bumping into a dozen people he knows. It’s like having our own personal fan magnet!

•  What is the single greatest musical memory so far while being in the band? 

Oh, narrowing it down to just one single greatest musical memory is like trying to pick a favorite song – nearly impossible! However, if we had to pinpoint a moment that truly stands out among the rest, it would have to be the overwhelming feeling of joy and gratitude that washes over us every time we hear from new fans discovering our music for the first time.

Over the past few months, we’ve been fortunate enough to receive messages from fans all around the world – from different cities, states, and even countries – who stumbled upon our music and were moved by what they heard. Whether it’s through Facebook, Instagram, or other channels, the outpouring of love and support we’ve received has been nothing short of heartwarming.

First up, we’ve got Alec – our resident curly-haired wonder. Unfortunately for him, that luscious mane might just be his Achilles’ heel, serving as a handy target for his opponents to grab onto and send him flying out of the ring in no time. It’s a tragic tale of hair-raising proportions.

Next, we’ve got Gus, the seasoned veteran of street brawls and bar room skirmishes. With his beachside agility and lightning-quick reflexes, he’s a force to be reckoned with. But can he outlast the youthful vigor of Reid?

Speaking of Reid, our youngest band member brings a combination of height, strength, and a surprising amount of energy to the ring. He’s ready to duke it out, but can he go the distance against the seasoned street-fighter, Gus?

We’ve been hard at work in the studio, cooking up some absolute bangers that we can’t wait to unleash upon the world. From infectious hooks to powerful lyrics, we’ve got something for everyone, and we’re pulling out all the stops to ensure that each release is nothing short of spectacular.

But that’s not all – we’ve got our sights set on hitting the road, possibly even touring by the end of the year if not sooner. From festival dates to local shows and events, we’re pulling out all the stops to get out to as many cities as possible, even if it means taking things one step at a time. We want to connect with our fans in person, bringing our electrifying live show to stages far and wide.

And behind the scenes, the creative process never stops. We’ve got a treasure trove of songs in the pipeline – at least 10-15 ready for vocals to be written. These aren’t just any songs – they’re potential game-changers, each one packed with the passion and energy that defines our sound.
