Music cassettes! Do you remember? Those things with the double coils and the wide brown plastic strap that would occasionally come loose and hang out of the case, requiring a pencil and a strong wrist to twist it back?

Yes, there was a time when sound systems contained cassette decks for the express purpose of recording shows, and these cassette things were standard equipment on every tour. Motörhead were certainly no exception and recorded show after show on them. They contain gold, pure aural gold, and for many years lay hundreds of meters underground in a small cave belonging to Lemmy, guarded by small, hairy centurions in Roman armor with tiny spears and bad tempers.

Only the magic password could be snatched from them – luckily Lem had written it down and left it for us in an old sketchbook. A lot of these dirty, dusty, greasy little things came together, with names like Malmö, Madrid, Heilbronn and Norwich scrawled in ballpoint pen on the tiny labels, along with a date… and so this unique collection began of live beads through carefully digitized transfers in a series of publications entitled “The Solves Tapes” .

To date, five concerts from these cassette documents of Motörhead’s ear-splitting cross-section of decades of live performances have been released digitally, with parts 1 through 4 also receiving limited vinyl editions. Due to overwhelming demand, the collection of volumes 1 to 5 is now available as a CD box set , with the latest volume 5 also being pressed on vinyl .
“The Löst Tapes” will be released on February 23, 2024 and can now be pre-ordered here: https://motorhead.lnk.to/losttapesvol5PR
