Rock Rage Interview with Becoming Wolves

Interview Questions: Becoming Wolves

  1.  Tell our Rock Fans about the band’s latest release?  Where did the band record with and who?

Our latest release The Fault In Your Scars, released on March 28th , is an absolute beast for us. A solid 30 minutes of killer music that we are extremely proud it.  We recorded at Sonic Stomp Recording Studio’s in Staten Island New York with our producer Mike Orlando at the helm.  Mike is more commonly know for his guitar hero status in Adrenaline Mob, Corey Glover and Category 7 but he is a fantastic producer who really knows what he is doing in the studio. He pushed us hard and really helped us as musicians to make us comfortable enough to  give the best performance we have done to date.

  1. How long was the writing process and what inspired you on this new release?

The writing process came about pretty quick. Maybe four months? We tend to write almost in bulk, the riffs and melodies always come quick to us. The longest part is the fine tuning process and getting to the point where we are satisfied that what we are cooking is safe for public consumption. Our inspiration came from the name Becoming Wolves, we by necessity had to Become Wolves. Mike and Gonzalo were in a signed band we quickly found ourselves not in a band anymore. We always worked great together and were driven to prove something. I guess the short answer is we found ourselves with a chip on our shoulders.

  1.  What changed during this process from previous releases?

We knew that with this release we had deliver something big or we would never live it down.

  1.  What’s next for the band?  Any Tours or festivals Lined up?

Yes, look for to be on tour stopping off at Monster Hall in Unity Wisconsin and the Chicago area in June (still hammering the date down) and we have a cool festival July 12th with Powerman 5000, Ill Nino & Priest in Marion Center Pennsylvania. Right outside of Pittsburgh. More dates to come.

  1.  Describe your live show to a fan that has not seen you perform before?

I’m gonna take a page out of the LA scene vintage era Van Halen. You get an arena size show no matter what size stage and what size our crowd is. People come out not just for music, they want to be entertained and they should expect a certain level of professionalism out of the  band they chose to spend their money on. It means a lot to us to entertain.

  1.  What is your favorite song to play live? Always a tough question to answer.

Love them all but like any musician, we’ve rehearsed, recorded and played every song a thousand times before you hear it once.  So it is always the newest thing that’s your favorite. Right now our new set opener Garden of Pain is what fuels us. It is powerful, catchy and just so damn heavy that is sets the tone of the night. Other than that, Cold & Dry is my personal favorite because it chugs and has such a great chorus.

  1.  If you could collaborate on a song or tour, what band would you choose and why?

At this stage in reality, like most hard rock/metal acts…the big dream would be to go on any tour where we could get proper exposure and get to meet great people and just get out there. If Black Stone Cherry is reading this…”LET’S DO THIS!!!”!!!! That’s a band I would love to be on the road with. Really admire them. As for a collaboration? Its got to be my main man, our  producer Mike Orlando. But if he is busy how a about Metallica?

  1.  What drives you as a musician? Being creative is definitely number one.

Music, it’s in our blood. It becomes an extension of you as a person. A creative outlet, yes, that’s what fuels us. But its not about fame or money. Most of us never see a dime. Its about what grew out us after spending all those hours honing a craft sitting at the edge of your bed with a guitar while others are hanging out or watching tv, your locked away with just music. Ya know it consumes you and becomes more important than your own soul. That’s why Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil, his music meant more than just a mere existence.

  1.  What band member gets the most *Attention* from the fans?

On the albums, its always going to be Ace, he is the voice of the band that’s who you identify with first. The music has to be great, but the vocals are always what catches you first. Now live that is another story, he has to keep up with the ADHD poster boy of a hyperactive guitar player. Ace got the insane gift of a voice and Mike is the definition of energy, but its the four of us work as a unit but the vocals and guitars have been the glory spots since Bill Haley & The Comets. So I blame society, lol.

  1.  Who is the laziest band member when it comes to load in and load out each night?

Believe it or not, everyone helps each other so no one is slacker. Its sickening that we all get along, right?

  1.  What is the single greatest musical memory so far while being in the band?

So many to choose from, I mean we are always cracking each other up those are the times I remember and enjoy the most. Me and Gonzalo got to the recording studio early one day and was setting up the drum kit and Mike Orlando mentioned Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall, Cat 7, Overkill) was just using the set. Gonzo was joking that we were replacing him with Jason. So I said “No way can he replace you bro!” No sooner I said that than the phone rang and it was him. I looked at Gonzo and said “He F’ing hear that and he’s coming down to kick my ass now.” We were dying. Those are things.  Maybe with the new album dropping and some killer shows lined up we’ll have more. For now, its hanging with my boys that’s killer!

  1.  If the band were thrown into a wrestling battle royal, which member would win?  Who would be the first to be thrown over the ropes?

Well that’s a tough one you see,  Ace is 6’5, Mike is 6’2, Gonzo is Cuban and Eddy is quiet. Do the big guys bull out a win or does the angry hot blooded Latino make up for it in willpower?  Wait, Eddy is so quiet I already forgot to add him in. I gotta go with Eddie, it’s the quiet ones with the electronic background you have to worry about. He might send a drone with a boxing glove down to kick some ass or something. Now if the battle royal is against someone else….They are seriously done for, cause it’s four against one every time.

  1.  What can fans expect next from the band?

The album is out now and we’re playing live again, so expect us in your town, your state and your country.
