Recent transplants to Tampa, Florida, Falling Through April set out in September to begin their ‘Worlds Away Tour’. Loaded with new music, Falling Through April will be rockin’ the stage at The Canopy Club in Urbana, Illinois, with Hazen and Central Illinois’ own, Ancient Ways.
I had a chance to talk to the band about their whirlwind year from new friendships to new collaborations, Falling Through April will be taking on the rock world by storm.
Tell us a little about the band, where are you from? How did you meet?
Falling Through April was originally founded in Charlotte, NC but as of June 2022 we have relocated to Tampa, FL. Dan and Jim met over Craigslist ads, Jerome was introduced to the band by Jim after working together at Guitar Center, and Mikaela was introduced to the band by a friend who spotted her performing cover songs.
What kind of music would you describe your sound as? Who are some of your musical influences?
Everyone wants to be original and have their signature sound but we do get compared to amazing artists like Flyleaf and Paramore. We have a wide range of musical influences that cross multiple genres too. Anything from Aerosmith to Weezer to Kanye to Skrillex. If it is amazing it will surely inspire us!
Let’s talk about the newest single “Poison”
Tell us what the song is about and what inspired the song?
This is a very interesting song for us. It was a collab with a R&B artist named Big Greg. This is the first time we’ve crossed genres and did a collab with someone but we had so much fun working together and love the end product. The whole song was written in the studio on the spot. Big Greg came in and knocked out his parts in just a few hours. True professional and truly amazing artist.
How does the collaboration process work as far as writing/composing music?
We all take part in every aspect of the writing process. The entire band works together on musical composition, lyrical content, production, etc. We work very well together and have a solid chemistry.
How does it feel when you put all your hard work to the test and perform live? Do you have any crazy performance band/fan stories?
Performing live is an experience you just cannot explain. It is such a natural adrenaline rush and surreal experience. To be able to touch so many people and inspire others is such an honor. There are many crazy stories, every time we hit the road there is some craziness that takes place and endless memories or inside jokes that result from it.
Let’s shake it up a little. Tell us some strange facts about the band, that virtually no one would know.
Strange facts about the band. Well… Jerome has a patch of his hair in the back that has always been blonde despite the rest of his hair being black and he was born in Italy. Jim is allergic to shellfish. Dan loves to eat delicacies and will try anything at least twice. Mikaela hates the sound of people chewing.
Let’s talk about your upcoming show at The Canopy Club on October 2, 2022, what can concert goers expect?
We go hard when we perform live! We love to have crowd participation during songs. We love to meet people and hang with them at the shows. We always perform unreleased songs too! We have a new one coming out during the tour with the same name “Worlds Away”. We were inspired by this upcoming tour and wanted to let that show through our writing. We will be performing it on the entire tour and it releases Friday 10/7! You can find it here : https://linktr.ee/fallingthroughapril
What do you have planned for the rest of 2022?
We have big plans for 2023 so we’re going to spend the rest of the year continuing to write new songs and get things lined up for a busy 2023 touring season.
